The NFL draft is always a great recruiting tool and for one top recruiting target of Michigan football, the run on offensive lineman Saturday helped.

When it comes to top in-state target Rocco Spindler, the Michigan football program will take all the help it can get and this past weekend, the Wolverines might have got an assist with four offensive lineman getting drafted.

Cesar Ruiz was the first former Michigan football player to come off the board and he went 24th to the Saints. Then, Ben Bredeson went to the Ravens in the fourth round, before Jon Runyan and Michael Onwenu each went off the board in the sixth round.

It was significant because it meant that each draft-eligible Wolverine on the offensive line ended up getting picked in the NFL draft and with Jalen Mayfield, the returning starter at right tackle, getting pre-draft buzz already as a first-round pick, it appears that success will continue.

It’s also something the Wolverines can start to use on the recruiting trail. Michigan has long had a tradition of churning out NFL-caliber offensive lineman and with the addition of Ed Warriner a couple of years ago, recruiting has really picked up. Already in 2021, Michigan has three commits ranked in the top 222 according to 247 sports. All are four-stars.

Getting four guys picked in the draft can help Warriner and Michigan sell top prospects on playing for the Wolverines and four-star target Rocco Spindler may already be proof of that as he came away impressed with the showing according to what he told The Michigan Insider ($):

"“Yeah, that’s something special to see as all four guys that declared for the draft all got picked up,” Spindler told The Michigan Insider. “You can see that coach Warinner is developing guys to play at the highest level!”"

Outside of four-star running back Donovan Edwards, who is one of the top running backs on the country, Spindler is one of the Wolverines’ most essential targets for the 2021 class. He’s 6-foot-4/1 and 295 pounds according to his 247 sports profile and he’s ranked 47th overall.

Michigan football currently owns 60 percent of his crystal ball projections, however, that number used to be 100 percent. Notre Dame has been gaining momentum in Spindler’s recruitment and seems like the main contender.

It feels like things are up in the air right now, yet with a slew of guards, tackles and centers going from Michigan to the NFL, maybe the Wolverines can get some momentum back.
