Michigan Football: 3 Wolverines who found good fits in 2020 NFL draft
Uche and Bill Belichick
During the broadcast of the 2020 NFL draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. wondered why Michigan football didn’t do a better job of utilizing Josh Uche and essentially said he should have played a lot more.
Well, that assessment is shared by many others. The problem with Uche is that he’s a tweener. At Michigan, he wasn’t really a defensive end or a linebacker. So at times, he was a standup outside linebacker and at other times, he was a defensive end.
Uche can put pressure on the quarterback, he can play the run and he can play like a traditional strong-side backer, one with coverage responsibilities too.
Belichick has always loved those versatile kinds of guys. Players like Mike Vrabel and Teddy Bruschi come to mind, as well as Kyle Van Noy and Jaime Collins. Uche is in that Collins mold, where he can contribute for the Pats in a multitude of ways.
And getting Uche in the third round was an absolute steal. Plus, it will be fun to watch Uche and former Michigan teammate Chase Winovich terrorize opposing quarterbacks together in the NFL.
