Michigan Football: 3 Wolverines who found good fits in 2020 NFL draft
Runyan Jr. to Green Bay is a great fit
Over the years, Green Bay isn’t a franchise that has invested tons of early resources in the offensive line, at least in terms of first-round picks.
During the Aaron Rodgers era, only two offensive lineman have been drafted by the Packers in the first round. All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari was a fourth-rounder and that’s why Jon Runyan Jr. to Green Bay feels like a really good fit.
If all works out, Runyan could be the eventual replacement at right tackle, where Bryan Bulaga, a former Iowa tackle who went in the first round to Green Bay, just left via free agency.
The Packers have a veteran in Rick Wagner and some others who could contend for that position, but in their back of their minds, they have to wonder if Runyan could grow into that role, just like he grew into a starter for the Wolverines.
There is some question about whether or not he will be a guard at the next level and if so, Green Bay is another great landing spot. Many of the Packers’ starting guards over the years have had a background playing tackle, so either way, Runyan should get a chance to earn a spot.
