Michigan Football: Rocco Spindler sheds light on recruiting battle
Rocco Spindler has been a top target for Michigan football since he was a freshman and he talked about where the Wolverines stand.
There’s no doubt that Michigan football has some momentum as far as the 2021 recruiting class is concerned. The Wolverines have added five commitments this month and appear to be gaining momentum in other recruiting battles as the spring moves along.
One of the most important battles for the Wolverines is about winning over four-star offensive lineman Rocco Spindler, one of the top players in the state of Michigan and the No. 2 guard in the country. He ranks 47th overall according to the 24 composite rankings.
Spindler hasn’t released a top five yet, however, he spoke with Wolverines Wire recently and said that Michigan football and Notre Dame were his top two teams. Here’s what he said specifically about the Wolverines:
"“With Michigan, I also see a brotherhood there. Great coaching staff, the facilities there are unbelievable. I truly believe they’re the best facilities in college football. I can just tell that they really, truly want to win and I really believe they have the guys there, the coaching staff is there. I just feel like they’ve gotta figure out one or two things to be a national championship team.”More from GBMWolverine3 things to watch for Michigan football vs. RutgersMichigan football vs. Rutgers: Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 4Michigan Wolverines news: Jim Harbaugh wants J.J. Adding Spindler, a dominant force in the trenches would certainly help. While some schools have been eyeing him as a defensive lineman, Michigan football has been focused on him on the offensive line and if he comes, he could the next in a long line of great Wolverines.
But Notre Dame has a pretty strong history, especially in recent years of developing offensive lineman and sending them to the NFL. So it’s easy to see why it’s going to be a tough decision.
Another interesting tidbit in an informative interview was that Spindler was hoping to take his five official visits before making a decision. He told Wolverines Wire he wants to visit five schools and that he would have a traditional ceremony with all the hats.
"“As soon as this blows over, get back on campus, take my five official visits and then probably one to two weeks later, I’ll have a big commitment day with those five schools. It’ll probably be on the football field and I’ll pick a hat.”"
Michigan owns 75 percent of the crystal ball projections right now with Spindler, but Notre Dame has been picking up steam. Yet, it sounds like both teams will still have plenty of time to make their pitch, so stay tuned for what’s easily one of U-M’s most important recruitments of 2021.
