Michigan football added a body to its 2020 roster in the way of a preferred walk-on who ranked as a three-star according to 247 sports.

Ed Warriner, the offensive line coach for Michigan football has proven to very adept at developing talent and according to Allen Trieu of 247 sports, he will get a new prospect to work with this upcoming season.

Trieu, reported the news earlier Monday ($) that Noah Stewart, a three-star offensive tackle according to the 247 sports 2020 rankings, had agreed to join the Michigan football program as a preferred walk-on.

In terms of getting preferred walk-ons, it’s something that every program does, just simply from a numbers standpoint but in Stewart, the Wolverines might have found something in an offensive tackle prospect that’s listed at 6-foot-7, 250 pounds.

It’s hard to say how accurate the 250-pound number is for Stewart, but getting an offensive tackle prospect at 6-foot-7, with decent athleticism is no small thing and that appears to be what the Wolverines are getting and according to Trieu, they weren’t the only ones who wanted him.

Here’s what he said ($) about other Big Ten schools trying to get him as a PWO:

"A couple coaches remarked to me that if he were in the 2021 class, he would have gotten a ton of offers in the winter. Just kind of a late bloomer who came on the radar late. There was a contentious recruiting battle here between MSU, UM and Iowa to get him to walk-on.”"

Stewart had a slew of FCS offers and some interest from MAC schools, so it’s not like he didn’t have other chances to play Division I football and if he does end up just being a late bloomer that could be a huge boon for the Wolverines, who get to develop the kid without giving him a scholarship.

The fact that Michigan State and Iowa were also trying to get him as a preferred walk-on just shows what some other competitors thought of him and while we don’t know if there will be a season in 2020, whenever Michigan football gets back at it, Stewart will be on the team.

And at the end of the day, you never what that might turn into.
