I caught up with coach Keith Wade, father of Michigan basketball‘s Brandon Wade and former college basketball athlete, in the middle of this pandemic to get a behind the scenes look at the extraordinarily gifted family.

Very few high school athletes are blessed with enough talent to catch the eye of a college coach and work their way onto a roster at the next level. That’s not the case in the Wade household.

Father and AAU coach Keith Wade got his start at Toledo where he had an impressive career with the Rockets.

One son, Ryan, plays for Holy Cross, and another, Brandon, is on the Michigan basketball roster with hopes of playing for coach Juwan Howard next season. Brandon had to sit out a year due to transfer rules – he spent his first season with Duquesne before coming back home.

Originally, Brandon Wade was offered a spot on the Michigan basketball team by John Beilein and when John left for the NBA, Brandon was left in the cold waiting, like the others recruited by Michigan’s winningest coach, and wondering what’s next. Who’s going to be the guy and will he honor the offer?

When Juwan accepted the position, he did his due diligence and saw the same thing his predecessor did: pure untapped potential.

There were some hoops to jump through, but Brandon was determined.

His dad tells the story, breaks down Brandon’s game, and more.
