Michigan football is after a number of highly-touted tight ends in 2021, but four-star Louis Hansen from Massachusetts might be end up as the right fit.

Michigan football has been busy recruiting lately, even with the dead period mandated by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One recruit who was planning a visit to Michigan football before all this happened was four-star tight end Louis Hansen out of Massachusetts. Hansen is just one a slew of targets for the Wolverines at the tight end position, which has clearly become a priority this cycle.

Recruiting analyst Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider ($) broke down some of Michigan football top targets at tight end and while Thomas Fidone might the most attractive option on the board, landing Hansen might be the most realistic.

Make no mistake, the Wolverines would surely like to add more than one dynamic pass-catching tight end in this class and Fidone is going to continue to be a top target.

The Council Bluffs, Iowa prospect is the No. 1 tight end according to the 247 sports specific rankings, while coming in 40th overall. The 6-foot-4 tight end is also ranked 99th overall in the 247 composite rankings and is listed as the No. 2 tight end.

As Lorenz reported, Michigan has been in near constant contact with Fidone recently, as the Wolverines are trying to out-pace Nebraska, Iowa and LSU for his services. Nebraska holds seven of his crystal ball projections, with the other two being foggy.

As far as Hansen is concerned, Michigan seems to be battling it out with Boston College, as well as Michigan State for a kid that’s ranked 187th overall in the 247 composite rankings and eighth among tight ends.

When you watch Fidone and Hansen, there are some definite similarities. Hansen is nearly 6-foot-5 and he shows the ability to run all sorts of routes. He plays the classic tight end position, you see him lineup in the slot and also split wide.

Lorenz also notes ($) that the Michigan coaching staff views Hansen as a legit tight end prospect and athlete:

"With Bowers and Fidone as national-level recruits who are going to get max effort from a ton of programs, a name to watch regarding Michigan’s class could be Hansen, who has long been viewed as a legitimate target for the staff. The Wolverines view the Massachusetts native as an explosive athlete who has excelled on both the football field and basketball court."

Fidone and Hansen aren’t the only tight ends Michigan football is aiming to get in the 2021 class, but the key is landing at least one of them and Hansen might be the most ideal fit.
