While much of the focus on Michigan basketball recruiting is centered on the 2020 class right now, one player to watch in 2021 is 5-star Efton Reid.

The Michigan basketball program has been busy when it comes to recruiting for the 2021 class and one player that could join the list to get an offer is five-star big man Efton Reid.

Reid is a 7-foot power forward from Richmond, Virginia that is ranked 20th overall in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as sixth among the power forwards and second in the state of Virginia.

Obviously, his offer list is pretty long and the Cavaliers, the home state team are obviously going to be a contender. Louisville is another team to watch and according to Stockrisers.com, Reid has taken visits to both the Cardinals and Cavaliers.

Reid also told Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers that Michigan basketball is among one of the teams pushing for him, as the Wolverines have recently taken an interest.

Reid is the kind of player that Juwan Howard has targeted since becoming the Wolverines head coach. He’s athletic and has the ability to play multiple positions. Reid would be a great fit in the world of position-less basketball that Howard is implementing and if five-stars such as Isaiah Todd and Joshua Christopher end up in Ann Arbor, it might help attract guys like Reid.

Of course, the next step is for Michigan basketball to actually extend an offer. According to Maize and Brew, the Wolverines have put out 11 offers so far for the 2021 class and Reid would be the 12th. Here’s what he said about his recruitment;

“Right now the schools that are on me are Virginia, Georgetown, Miami, Ohio State, Louisville, Maryland, Ole Miss, NC State, Iowa State, Wake Forest,” Reid said. “If AAU gets cancelled, my circle and I will sit down and discuss my future.”

It’s a crowded field and if the Wolverines aren’t able to get him in for a visit, it might be difficult. But Howard is a big name in college hoops right now, so you never know what can happen.

The first step is building the relationship and while it may be a little late in the game, Michigan is at least starting to do that.
