Michigan Football: Recruiting analyst projects 4-star CB to Wolverines
Michigan football has been working hard on recruiting, even though it can’t visit prospects and one expert is projecting a top in-state corner to U-M.
It’s been impressive to see what Michigan football coaches have done during this dead period in recruiting when they aren’t allowed to host players or visit them.
With the practice of social distancing and other measures, it has forced the coaching staff to get creative but with technology such as Facetime, they have found a way to keep in touch with top recruits on the trail.
One of those priorities for Michigan football has been four-star cornerback Kalen King, an in-state prospect out of Cass Tech in Detroit that stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 170 pounds.
King also has 33 scholarship offers according to his 247 sports profile, which lists him as a four-star prospect, ranked 328th overall. He’s also the No. 24 cornerback in the nation and the 10th-best player in the state of Michigan when it comes to the 2021 class.

The crystal ball projection, which is the second for King, comes from Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider who spoke to King this week:
“I talked with Harbaugh a couple days ago and Don Brown,” King told The Michigan Insider ($). “They were telling me that they wanted me and to feel free to commit at any time. It felt good coming from them. Made me feel like a priority. We’ve been talking for a while now.”
King also had positive things when he first received the offer from the Wolverines over a year ago in January of 2019.
“It means a lot because I grew up loving Michigan,” King said when he got his offer. “Since they offered, it was like a dream.”
Seeing King start to trend with the Wolverines isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s good news for a couple of reasons. One, Michigan football has two just commitments right now for the 2021 class, so it would be nice to start adding more, although the adjusted timeline won’t help.
Securing some of the top talents in the state must be a priority too, especially with Michigan State hiring Mel Tucker. Michigan football is still going to be the top dog, but as with four-star running back Donovan Edwards, Tucker is pushing for these kids and he’s a strong recruiter.

The other good news about King is that he’s a great fit for the Wolverines. He’s versatile and should be able to play that man-to-man style Don Brown loves, while also fitting nicely into a zone scheme if that’s where things are headed.
