Michigan football fans have been waiting for the ball to get rolling on the 2021 recruiting class and the latest projection of a four-star tackle will help.

Watching Ohio State continue to land commitments, even during a pandemic has been a little discouraging for Michigan football fans, especially with the Wolverines holding at just two commitments for the 2021 class.

Michigan football is ranked outside the top 30 right now when it comes to the 2021 class and that’s because the Wolverines just have two commits right now. One of those is J.J. McCarthy, a five-star quarterback and Giovanni El-Hadi, a top-100 left tackle.

While Michigan has been in on a bunch of recruits, the push that U-M made last year in spring and summer could be harder to replicate. Yet, on the positive front, the Wolverines picked up another crystal ball for four-star offensive tackle David Davidkov.

Davidkov is ranked as the No. 144 prospect overall when it comes to the 247 sports specific rankings and he is the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois as well as the 19th-best offensive tackle.

However, if you dig a little deeper and check out the evaluation done by 247 sports, he is compared to Joe Staley and given a potential NFL draft projection in the second or third round.

At 6-foot-6, 295 pounds, Davidkov has all the tools it takes to be a really good offensive tackle and if Michigan football lands him, it would be fun to see what offensive line coach Ed Warriner could do with that ability.

Adding more talent and depth to offensive tackle is also huge, especially if the Wolverines want the speed-in-space offense to be truly successful. Ohio State has been known for having some dynamic pass rushers and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

The best way to counteract that is by surrounding the quarterback with protection. That’s always going to be a priority, but with El-Hadi committed already, getting Davidkov would add another really solid tackle to the mix.

On that same note, Michigan picked up another crystal ball with former Notre Dame commit Greg Crippen. The Wolverines already had a couple of crystal balls but picked on up from Steve Lorenz Wednesday, who hopped on the train with Sam Webb, who put in a CB for Michigan the day that Crippen de-committed from the Irish. This seems on lockdown.

In fact, it’d be fair to call Davidkov and Crippen Michigan leans and if it stays that way, that’s a heck of a start for Warriner and the offensive line
