Michigan Basketball: Updating things with Greg Brown, Joshua Christopher
Michigan basketball may get a decision soon from a pair of key targets in five-star recruits Greg Brown and Joshua Christopher.
It seems like Michigan basketball and its fans have been waiting for five-star shooting guard Joshua Christopher to make a decision for weeks or months now, but according to his father, who recently did an interview with 247 sports, a decision is coming soon.
Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper in the recruiting process and the way that Christopher works out, since he’s unable to play with any of the teams he is normally part of, however, his dad said he was keeping up individual workouts and more importantly, here’s what Christopher’s dad said about his decision timeline to 247 sports ($):
"“We are as close as we’ve been. But it’s on him. It’s his decision. We can throw a date out there but we are still just going to make a decision when he’s ready. There has never been a rush; all the same schools still want him and would take him whenever he is ready.”"
Yet if you dig a little deeper into the interview, there are some hints that could be viewed favorably for Michigan basketball. Here’s what Christopher’s dad said about deciding factors ($):
"“He has to go where he can get the most out of the situation until the next level. He needs to go where he can be the best pro. He’ll pick the best decision for him to grow. You look at his list and think about it and you see pro cultures. He’s not staying in college and he wants the best out of it but he’s going somewhere to prepare him for the pros.”"
To me, that sounds like Christopher is heading to Michigan basketball. Juwan Howard and the Wolverines are better suited to send players to the NBA than UCLA, Arizona State or Missouri. Howard played and coached in the league and has at least two NBA players on the roster right now and by next season, the Wolverines will have even more.
On a related note though, it doesn’t look like Greg Brown will be one of them. Brown, a five-star like Christopher in 2020, seems to be leaning towards Memphis if you believe the latest trend of crystal ball projections.
If those projections end up being true, Michigan will get Christopher and Memphis should get Brown, which would still be a win for the Wolverines.
