Michigan Basketball: 4 takeaways from the Wolverines 2019-20 season
The 2019-20 campaign was an exciting season for Michigan basketball that ended prematurely because of COVID-19. Still, here are five takeaways.
A lot of seasons end before you think they are going to. But the way that the season ended for Michigan basketball and every other spring and winters sports program in the NCAA was stunning.
The suddenness of it all is still hard to grasp. Just six days ago, Michigan basketball was battling arch rival Ohio State in Columbus. Now, both teams are done as the NCAA tournament was canceled, along with the Big Ten tournament and the season.
The Wolverines were in Indy for the Big Ten tourney, set to take on Rutgers for a third time when it happened. Worst of all, it abruptly ended the careers of Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske, as well as seniors across the country such as Cassius Winston.
As head coach Juwan Howard said, this is bigger than basketball. That’s been the slogan for Michigan and it’s a darn good one. U-M was a leader in shutting down recruiting and in football alone, 100 visits were canceled.

Another NCAA tournament berth would have been nice, yet we will always know this is an NCAA tournament team. With that in mind, here are five takeaways from the 2019-20 season.
