Michigan basketball, as of now, will play Rutgers in the Big Ten basketball tournament in Indy and here’s how to watch and stream, plus all other key info.

Wednesday was a day in sports that really was unlike any other. There were cancellations, insane news stories and everything in between. But still, it appears that Michigan basketball and the rest of the Big Ten will take the floor today.

If it happens, the Wolverines will open up at 12;00 PM EST, against Rutgers in the 8-9 matchup. While we don’t know for certain the game will actually be played, we do know that according to the Big Ten’s guidance, it will be played in front of no fans, which will be a little strange.

Here’s the statement from the Big Ten last night, following the decision by the NCAA to hold the Men’s and Women’s tournaments without fans. The NBA also suspended its season after Rudy Gobert, a Utah Jazz player, tested positive for COVID-19.

After that happened, things got really scary in the Big Ten tournament as Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska head coach left the game after being ill. He went to the hospital and didn’t test positive for COVID-19, but the Huskers team was quarantined for a short time to be safe, the same Nebraska team that was in Ann Arbor just last week. Thankfully, he just had a common illness and the team was allowed to go back to its hotel last night.

While that situation was unfolding, it seemed possible that the entire tournament could get canceled and it still could. If ever there was a fluid situation, this is it.

For now, things appear to be going ahead as planned in Indy and that means Michigan basketball should be tipping off in a few hours against Rutgers. If you were hoping to attend and now have to watch from the couch or if that was the plan all along, here’s how to watch, stream and listen to Michigan and Rutgers. The Wolverines enter as a three-point favorite, thanks to a 2-0 record during the season series. The victor would get Wisconsin next in the bracket.

Storylines, Prediction

Obviously, the fact that the game will be played in front of no fans is interesting, but it won’t be the first time Michigan basketball has had to deal with something at the Big Ten tournament. A few years ago, the team nearly got in a plane crash before heading to Washington D.C. for the tournament and had to play in practice jerseys in the first game. The Wolverines won that game and went on to win the tournament.

While both Rutgers and Michigan basketball will be looking to improve seeding, both teams should be solidly in the NCAA tournament, if it’s actually played. So this game will be all about improving the resume and trying to make a run at the Big Ten tourney title, something Michigan won two years in a row before last season when it was beaten in the title game by Michigan State.

In terms of predictions, I’ll say that if the game is played, Michigan will find a way to win a hard-fought battle, 70-65.
