Michigan Football: RB Corey Kiner becomes key target for Wolverines
Michigan football is in the hunt for some high-end running backs in 2021 and it made the top-10 for a key target in Ohio back Corey Kiner.
One of the key recruiting battles going on for Michigan football has centered on in-state running back Donovan Edwards, who is in the middle of a battle between the Wolverines and Buckeyes.
Edwards actually visited Ohio State over the weekend and had some positive things to say, as recruits generally do after visits, but it feels like he’s becoming more of a Buckeye lean, even though a decision could still be down the road.
If Michigan football does miss out on Edwards, it will hurt, but there will be a chance to recover and one way would be getting a commitment from fellow four-star running back in 2021, Corey Kiner, a kid out of Ohio.
Kiner is out of Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati is ranked as the No. 160 prospect overall in the 2021 class and he’s also listed by the 247 sports composite rankings the 10th-best running back and the No. 8 recruit in Ohio.
While Edwards is the running back most Michigan football and Ohio State fans have been focused on recently, Kiner is another interesting battle and on Sunday, he released his top 10 which included U-M, Ohio State, Penn State, as well as Georgia, LSU, Florida and Texas A&M among others.
The recruitment of Kiner could be directly impacted by what happens with Edwards. Both Kiner and Edwards are among a few running backs being recruited by both schools and if the Buckeyes land Edwards, as well as another top back such as TreVeyon Henderson or Evan Pryor, it could give Michigan a leg up in the chase for Kiner.
The Wolverines are also after Henderson, who is going to visit Ann Arbor in June but he already has a crystal ball projection to Clemson and that seems like another recruiting battle that will be tough to win.
So the good news is that Kiner still seems well within reach and if Edwards does indeed go to Ohio State, he could be the ideal consolation prize and a top-10 back, which is nothing to scoff at.
