Michigan football didn’t quite land an elite tight end in 2020, but the Wolverines will host the No. 3 tight end in 2021 on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

It’s the weekend, which means it’s recruiting time for Michigan football as the Wolverines will get set to host some prospects for visits.

And one guy that’s taking a trip to Ann Arbor Saturday is one of the top tight ends in the 2021 class, Brock Bowers, a four-star out of California. The 6-foot-3 Napa product is listed as the 101st prospect nationally in the 247 composite rankings and the No. 3 tight end.

However, in the specific 247 rankings, he is No. 52 overall and the No. 2 tight end and according to The Michigan Insider ($), Bowers and his parents will take an unofficial visit.

Digging a little deeper into Bowers, it’s easy to see why he has offers from LSU, Arizona State, California, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon Tennessee, UCLA, USC and more. Michigan football offered him back in October and here’s what he told Brice Marich about his reaction:

"“It means a lot,” Bowers said. “It’s a big offer for me and I’m really excited to get out there and get to know the coaches more. I’m pretty interested because I have a family friend that is going there for Michigan and she said that she loves it.”"

His 247 sports scouting profile compares Bowers to Noah Fant, the former Iowa tight end that went in the first round of the NFL draft to the Denver Broncos. Bowers is that dynamic move tight end and he runs a 4.5 in the forty-yard dash to back that up.

And as of now, Michigan football could really use a talented playmaker or two in its 2021 class, because the Wolverines are sitting on two commitments right now. J.J. McCarthy, the five-star quarterback is one of them, along with Giovanni El-Hadi, a left tackle.

Both McCarthy and El-Hadi are top-10 players at their positions and both are top-70 prospects overall according to the 247 composite. So that’s certainly a good start but after missing out on four-star tight end Theo Johnson in the last recruiting cycle, Bowers would be a dream fit.

Sherrone Moore is the lead recruiter and he’s as good as anyone U-M has one staff. The visit and impression will be key, but it should at least get the Wolverines more into the conversation.
