Former Michigan basketball player Duncan Robinson has put together an unbelievable season in Miami that is now record-breaking.

It’s been a great year for Michigan basketball players in the NBA. But no one has put together a better season than former Wolverine Duncan Robinson.

Of course, it’s been fun to follow Duncan Robinson over the past two seasons with the Miami Heat and this year especially, as he developed into a starter for a playoff team, but also into one of the best pure 3-point shooters in the association.

It would have been hard to picture Robinson starting 58 games for the Heat two years ago when he didn’t get drafted, however, his shooting ability and the much-improved all-around game has made him a key cog.

Well, if things weren’t going well enough for Robinson already, he put his name into the Miami Heat record books as he set the franchise record for 3-point field goals, while also notching the most treys in a season by an undrafted player.

And it should be noted that there are still about 20 games left in the season.

Robinson first earned his stripes in the G-League before getting some action with Miami late last season. This year, he started off on the bench, but soon, it was apparent, he was one of the Heat’s most productive players.

Now, he’s a starter and he is averaging 13.9 points per game in addition to shooting 44 percent from beyond the arc. Robinson averages 3.7 3-point makes per game and shoots 90 percent from the line even though he only attempts about one per game.

The meteoric rise has just been incredible to watch and Robinson even tried to explain it

"“I’ve improved a lot. I was so appreciative of my time at Michigan and I got so much better there.  The Heat have just done a great job of having a vision for me and what I can be at this level. Right from day one, they knew I could shoot it and they basically stressed that you’re not going to be able to sit in the corner and just shoot."

Robinson only averages around three rebounds per game, but he’s long and he’s always been a better defender than given credit for. Eight out of the nine shots he averages are 3-pointers, yet when you make half those attempts, it’s deadly for the opposing team.

In the game against New Orleans, in which he broke the record, Robinson made nine 3-pointers. The night before against the Magic, Robinson drilled eight. His season-high is 10 and five times in 2019-20 has the Michigan basketball product made eight treys or more.
