It sounds like Michigan football target Jamari Buddin has a long way to go before making his final decision, but right now, the Wolverines are the favorite.

While things may not be going that well for Michigan football with one top in-state prospect in 2021, in terms of another, the Wolverines are looking as strong as ever.

The recruit that Michigan football seems to be losing traction with is Donovan Edwards, the No. 2 running back in 2021 according to the 247 composite rankings. At one time, he held nothing but Michigan crystal balls and those have started switching, which gives you the indication that people close to the story believe he’s going to the Buckeyes.

Hopefully, Michigan will have the chance to turn that around and with it still being around 10 months until signing day, even if Edwards commits soon to Ohio State, which is a possibility, seeing as the Buckeyes have been pushing other backs to commit, it doesn’t mean it will be over.

Still, if Edwards does end up going to Ohio State, it won’t be a good look for the Wolverines, who are very focused on keeping the elite talent of the 2021 class home in the state of Michigan.

Edwards is a huge part of that but another key target is four-star linebacker Jamari Buddin out of Belleville. He’s not ranked as high as Edwards, however, Buddin is still ranked 264th overall according to the 247 composite rankings and the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker is listed 19th among outside linebackers in the 2021 class.

Buddin is fast, athletic and he’s the kind of guy that could be a perfect fit for the Viper position, which has turned into a sort of linebacker/safety combo at Michigan. Khaleke Hudson started there the past three years, following Jabrill Peppers, who was the first.

Next season, it looks like Anthony Solomon, a rising sophomore, could take over that role and coming out of high school, he was very similar to Buddin. Solomon was 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, so recruiting Buddin who has about the same build, as a Viper, makes perfect sense.

Strangely, Buddin told The Michigan Insider ($) that he wasn’t going to commit until December, which is right around the start of the early signing period. That seems pretty late for a guy with seven crystal ball predictions for Michigan football already, but we will see.

At one time, Edwards seemed like a sure thing too and with Penn State, Minnesota and others lurking for Buddin, the longer he waits, the harder it can be to predict what will happen.

For now, though, the Wolverines are the unquestioned favorite.
