Michigan Basketball: Examining the final 4 Games in the regular season
Maryland
The nation’s seventh-best team is the Maryland Terrapins, according to the Associated Press college basketball poll. Mark Turgeon is having his best season as a coach, and the world is taking notice: the Terrapins are legitimate title contenders.
Senior Anthony Cowan has transformed himself into a more dynamic scorer, and the team is one of the most disciplined in all of college basketball (9th for personal fouls, 35th for turnovers overall/1st for personal fouls, 8th for turnovers in the Big Ten).
According to KenPom, Maryland is 8th in Adjusted Efficiency Margin – Michigan basketball is 11th – and they’re 5th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency – Michigan is 17th.
Maryland is disciplined, efficient, and undefeated at home, which is precisely where the Wolverines will find themselves Sunday, March 8th.
For Michigan to overcome the Big Ten’s best, they will require a clean game in terms of fouls and turnovers, while remaining efficient and taking advantage of the fast breaks.
For Maryland to win, they need to continue what they’re doing, riding this nine-game win streak. But if today’s matchup with No. 25 Ohio State goes sour, confidence levels may plummet opening up the door for a UM victory in a few weeks. Should the Terrapins come out victorious in Columbus, life might be that much tougher for Michigan.
