The Michigan football program will play its spring football game on April 18, but once again, the Wolverines won’t do much more than practice.

If Michigan football fans were hoping for an actual spring game this year, they will be disappointed as the Wolverines announced they will hold an open practice for the spring game on April 18.

The announcement wasn’t a big shock as the Wolverines have never really had a true spring game under head coach Jim Harbaugh and at any rate, they seem to be a thing of the past.

Very few college teams will actually split up into teams, put time on the clock and play football. Most spring games are now just controlled scrimmages or practices and that’s what Michigan football will do April 18.

Yet, it’s still something fans will be looking forward to and not just because it will be a big step in the quarterback battle between Joe Milton and Dylan McCaffrey, it will also be the chance to see eight newcomers such as Andre Seldon and other freshmen that enrolled early.

Certainly, there will be even more interest in the spring game and spring football with a quarterback battle taking place, which means even though it’s just a practice, thousands of people will attend and we will watch every second for clues about the 2020 season.

While the “spring game” isn’t really going to be a football game, it will be part of a larger day of athletics for Michigan that day, which also includes some tennis, softball and gymnastics. Here is the schedule released by the University of Michigan:
