You know the level of criticism is getting ridiculous when Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh is getting it from a school president for not beating the Buckeyes.

File this one under the ridiculous. On Sunday, talking about a potential home-and-away series with Michigan football, Arizona State President, yes the president of the university, took some very strange shots at Jim Harbaugh, considering the Sun Devils football history.

Dr. Michael Crow of ASU said the following to a sports radio program in Arizona according to 247 sports:

"“I don’t know where we are exactly, but (a Michigan matchup) in the works,” Crow said to Arizona Sports 98.7FM. “And so the most important point that I want to make relative to that is we want our model to be a model where we compensate our coaches moderately, we compensate them highly if they’re very successful. Everybody graduates, everybody goes on and has a great life. We want to crush all these other teams.”"

He then directed a criticism right at Harbaugh, which is weird, considering the lack of long-term success in his program. Harbaugh has won 10 games three times since 2015. ASU hasn’t once in that same time period.

"“(Jim) Harbaugh, the coach at Michigan, he was the quarterback when ASU won the (1987) Rose Bowl. I would love — before whatever happens to him, since he can’t beat Ohio State, I would love to see us now take him on and beat him as coach.”"

A matchup with Arizona State wouldn’t be bad and after reading that, I’d love to see it happen. It seems that Crow is a little confused. I know the Sun Devils beat Michigan State in each of the past two seasons, but they did so luckily and in dramatic fashion each time.

In the last two seasons, Michigan beat the same weak Spartan teams by a combined score of 65-17. Arizona State needed Michigan State to miss a bunch of field goals to escape with a 7-3 win this year after the Sun Devils were outgained nearly 2-1. The team Michigan outscored by 48 the last two years, ASU outscored by seven.

It’s also funny to hear a guy smack talk about a program that’s won 47 games under Harbaugh, while during that same stretch, Arizona State has won just 33 and hasn’t won 10 games once. In fact, the eight they won last year was the high point.

Look it’s obvious that Jim Harbaugh needs to beat Ohio State. The entire college football world knows what the Michigan football coach needs to do.

But to get jabbed by the president of a mediocre Pac-12 school that isn’t even on the Wolverines level in terms of talent, wins, NFL players or any other standard of measurement over the past five years, is ridiculous.

If you are Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Alabama, Florida or someone legit, you can talk. You don’t get to talk after pulling one big upset. So Dr. Crow, get ready to eat crow if the Sun Devils and Wolverines eve meet. This isn’t 1987 and Arizona State isn’t Michigan.
