The Michigan football program has been struggling to win the big games over the past five years, but that is all about to change during the 2020 season.

Five years, three 10 win seasons, 1-4 in bowl games, 0-5 against Ohio State. The Michigan football program is taking it year by year, improving slightly, trying to find its stride back to winning ways and dominance in College Football.

All of those statistics prove Michigan football can’t win the big game. So why is next year going to be any different?

The Wolverines are about to become contenders once again and here is why…

First, Shea Patterson is gone, and Dylan McCaffrey is the future. The last two years the Wolverines have had to sideline Dylan McCaffrey. The reason for sidelining him was because of the transfer Michigan football landed two years ago, former Ole Miss quarterback, Shea Patterson.

Patterson was a mediocre talent that posted two seasons of 19 wins and seven losses. Don’t get me wrong, Shea led Michigan to more successful seasons than the Michigan football program had seen in quite some time.

For the first time in years, Harbaugh and Patterson’s Michigan football squad was actually in contention.

But, were they really legit contenders?

The answer is no.

When you are outscored, 118-66 over a two-game span, by your rival, it shows a team like Michigan’s true colors. Patterson was never going to reach the ultimate goal of winning a National Championship that fans were eagerly waiting for.

With Dylan McCaffrey, a 6-foot-5 junior and former highly-ranked recruit, there is hope. The kid has incredible talent, both throwing and running the football. He has had injury problems in the past, but the fans in Maize and Blue hope for a healthy season out of Harbaugh’s next Andrew Luck.

Second, Jim Harbaugh, one of few coaches to be successful at the professional and collegiate level, must have some type of plan or trick up his sleeve come the fall of 2020.

Without a doubt, I am sure Harbaugh hears all the rumbling in Ann Arbor, but I’m also sure he knows who he is and what he is capable of doing with the program.

Yes… he hasn’t beaten Ohio State, but his resume and history around football tells us, as fans of Wolverine nation, that this man can win. He did it at Stanford, he did it with the San Francisco 49ers, and at some point, he will do it with Michigan football.

The last five years of Michigan football, whether you believe it or not, have been an uphill rise. I don’t care what the numbers say on ranked opponents, Michigan is inches away from becoming legit contenders again.

Let me put all of the reasons together for you. The fans are hungry. Dylan McCaffrey is hungry. And Jim Harbaugh, fighting for his reputation, is hungry. Be patient Maize and Blue nation, the wins will come.
