Michigan Football: 5 Breakout candidates for Wolverines on offense
Dynamic duo
Michigan football is absolutely loaded in the backfield with Zach Charbonnet and Hassan Haskins both returning for next season. In 2019, they combined for more than 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns.
But next season, the two should produce even more and depending on how often they each the ball, it’s not impossible for them to both make a run at 1,000 yards rushing. It’s probably a bit of a cop-out to put them both on this list, but honestly, I couldn’t choose between them and I don’t think the coaching staff will next year either.
You don’t need a 1A and 1B at running back. One might emerge, yet both are going to get touches along with guys like Chris Evans, Blake Corum and Christian Turner.
The offensive line is a question mark but it’s generally easier to run block than it is to pass protect, so a heavier dose of the running game could help that unit along while focusing on possibly the two best players on the offensive side of the ball.
U-M has two impact players at running back and even though the offense is about speed-in-space, it’s more about getting the ball to your best players and next season, it’s clear Charbonnet and Haskins will be among them.
