Michigan Football: 5 Breakout candidates for Wolverines on offense
Michigan Football will have to replace some key pieces on offense heading into 2020 and to help do it, here are five breakout candidates.
The college football season hasn’t even been over a month, but already, it feels like much longer, especially since Michigan football hasn’t seen the field since New Year’s Day.
Yet, with the 2020 recruiting cycle in the books, spring football is really just right around the corner and since it’s the dead period in recruiting right now, it seems like a great time to start looking forward to next season and what these Wolverines could look like.
On the offensive side of the ball, there will be major changes. Shea Patterson, the starting quarterback for the past two years, will be gone, along with four of the five starters on the offensive line and wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. Sean McKeon and Tru Wilson are others that won’t return, along with Tarik Black who is transferring.
That’s a lot of talent that needs to be replaced. But, the Wolverines landed the Big Ten’s top recruiting class in 2019 and U-M will have also have a strong group of incoming freshmen in 2020 that includes offensive playmakers such as A.J. Henning, Blake Corum and Roman Wilson.
But even if those guys aren’t ready to contribute right away, Michigan football has a bunch of returners ready to take the next step and on the offensive side of the ball, here are five ready to breakout.
