Michigan Football: Wolverines make top-10 for highly-ranked DT’s
It might be the dead period for recruiting but Michigan football is still in the news as some top-ranked defensive tackles in 2021 put U-M in their top 10.
While the recruiting dead period has hit for Michigan football and other programs, it’s a great time for players to narrow down their lists and a couple of highly-ranked defensive tackles did this week, which turned out to be good news for the Wolverines.
The first news was a bit of a surprise as Damon Payne, a top-100 tackle in the 2021 class and a recruit from the state of Michigan, put the Wolverines in his top 10.
Payne, who is from Belleville, is the top-ranked player in the state of Michigan according to the 247 composite rankings. He also ranks fifth among defensive tackles and 35th overall nationally.

Earlier this summer, Michigan football didn’t make his top-10 list, so that’s a positive change. However, Alabama and Ohio State still seem to be leading the way, although it appears Shaun Nua and Michigan are making headway.
The Wolverines were also named as a contender in the fight for another defensive tackle, a four-star from Maryland in Marcus Bradley. Bradley is one of the top players from the state of Maryland and the 6-foot-3, 270-pounder is ranked 16th among defensive tackles as well as coming in as the No. 216 prospect overall.
Ohio State is in the lead for Bradley at this point and the Buckeyes hold both of his crystal ball projections. However, the Wolverines offered Bradley recently and it seems like they have made a positive impression working their way into his top-10.
On top of the Wolverines and the Buckeyes, some of the other teams in Bradley’s top 10 are LSU, Oklahoma and also in-state team Maryland.
Another thing to note, Raheem Anderson, a center from Detroit, was once viewed as a strong Michigan lead, as the Wolverines controlled as of his crystal balls and now that has gone down.
Michigan football still holds 60 percent of Anderson’s crystal balls, however, Allen Trieu and Steve Wiltfong both went foggy with their predictions Friday, which makes you think the Cass Tech product isn’t such a sure thing.
