Michigan Football after BC commit, Nick Patterson goes elsewhere
Michigan football didn’t have much happen on national signing day, but here’s the latest on the recruiting front including news on Nick Patterson.
One of the best things about Don Brown being on the staff of Michigan football is that it gives the Wolverines a good in for prospects in the Northeast and especially in Massachusetts.
It has led to some solid gets over the past few years with Brown on staff and with one 2021 prospect that’s already committed to Boston College, Brown is at it again.
The player he’s after is three-star defensive end TJ Guy, who committed to Boston College back in November but has gotten offers from Michigan football and others since then. According to the Michigan Insider ($), Brown made the offer last week.
"“My high school football coach met with Coach Don Brown and Coach Tank Wright and then my high school coach told me. After finding out the news, I was so happy and proud. It just kept hitting me.”"
Guy is listed as the No. 635 prospect overall according to the 247 composite rankings, but if you look at the 247 sports specific rankings, he is much higher. The composite rankings have him as the No. 35 weak-side end, while according to 247, he sits at No. 22.
At 6-foot-4, 240-pounds, he has the ideal size to be a 4-3 defensive end. It’s possible he could be a stand-up rusher like a Chase Winovich too. On his film, you see him play with his hand in the dirt. He’s a long, athletic pass rusher that also shows the ability to be physical in the run game.
While the pursuit of Guy is one new development to keep an eye, there was some recruiting news related to Michigan football and its 2020 class Wednesday and that was Nick Patterson committing to Princeton.
Patterson, the younger brother of quarterback Shea Patterson, has been committed to Michigan for a while, but there were rumors that he was going elsewhere and when he didn’t sign in the early signing period, it was only a matter of time.
Well, Wednesday, Patterson made it official by announcing that he was going to Princeton. So that’s that for the 2020 recruiting class, which ends up as No. 2 in the Big Ten.
