On a quiet late signing day period Michigan football inked a solid class with a group of men who will have to come in eager to prove their worth.

The fax machines were busy in December, but not today as Michigan football wrapped up another yearly recruiting class. According to multiple sites, Jim Harbaugh did a good job reeling in a consensus top-15 class.

Michigan football ranked as the second-best in the Big Ten if you research what most pundits deliberated it on. The only school that did better in the conference is the one that they cannot conquer, the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Wide receiver A.J. Henning gets the spotlight of all the recruits when it comes to many. Henning had a whos-who of offers from around the country, but also wanted to be a Wolverine. Braiden McGregor is the top defensive signee. He’s garnered some similar attention to Aidan Hutchinson who also stayed in state to suit up for Michigan football.

The secondary unit has to be considered as one of the best incoming hauls in the nation. Andre Seldon came on late with his performance in the Under Armor All American game. Darion Green-Warren was an important late signing that adds another capable defender to the cornerback position.

At safety, Michigan inked three that could wind up at different spots when all is said and done. All three guys stayed committed even with the departure of Chris Partridge, which tells you a lot about themselves. Makari Paige gained some experience in high school at West Bloomfield by playing roles on defense that will be familiar to him whenever he takes the field for Michigan. William Mohan is less talked about a guy who could be given a shot at the viper role.

Zak Zinter is regarded as the top offensive lineman in the fold. With the current group getting decimated by departures, Zinter will work towards earning early playing time after enrolling in January. His prototypical frame and power on film enhance his chances to do just that.

Harbaugh didn’t forget about special teams either. He brought in long snapper Gregory Tarr, who’s advertised as a five-star recruit. Preferred walk-on Karl Kerksa joins the committee with kicking duties. He ranks as the #1 placekicker from the state of Michigan. His longest attempt in high school was from 63 yards which he connected on based on maxpreps.com statistics. The Wolverines also added Cole Hussung, a walk-on kicker that will also be part of the competition.

As of today, eight members are already enrolled in classes on campus. The likes of Henning and McGregor should be expected to make early impacts as freshmen. Others who might follow the same path include Seldon, Blake Corum, at least one of the trio of safeties and a name or two that will presumably come out of nowhere.
