There are reports citing sources that Jim Harbaugh could get an extension as Michigan football coach in the coming weeks. Here are three thoughts.

There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks about the contract of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh. As of now, it’s set to expire after 2021 and soon enough, the two sides could start talks on a new deal.

In fact, while there has been plenty of speculation about when Michigan football might work on that contract with Harbaugh, Wolverine Digest came out with a report, quoting sources that said an agreement between the two sides could be imminent, as in within a few weeks.

The author, Michael Spath is known for having solid connections and he cites multiple sources, so there isn’t much to doubt the information. Here is one of the quotes used and it makes perfect sense:

“We’re already getting negatively recruited against, one staff in particular – and it’s pretty pathetic considering the status of that staff – telling 2021 recruits that Harbaugh will be gone after their first year,” Spath reported one of the sources said.

“But at the same time, they’re not really making stuff up at the moment. Jim doesn’t have a deal in place beyond 2021 and every recruit’s parent will be asking whether he’ll be here to coach their son, and if not, is there a plan?”

Spath also writes: “In fact, multiple sources WolverineDigest spoke to believe an extension will be finalized and announced within the next few weeks.”

It remains to be seen if that ends up being true, but right now, here are three thoughts on a possible Harbaugh extension.
