Michigan football needs to have an elite stable of quarterbacks and when it comes to the 2022 class, four-star MJ Morris is the guy the Wolverines need.

Michigan football needs to find an elite quarterback. That’s not something that is news to anyone. But in the 2021 class, it looks like the Wolverines have found that in J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy is the No. 13 overall prospect according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the No. 2 quarterback. He committed to the Wolverines last summer as the top player out of Illinois and hasn’t wavered, even as head coach Jim Harbaugh and the program is widely criticized for underachieving again.

McCarthy is the guy that could drastically change things for Michigan football. If he’s what we all believe he can be. Maybe he could be the kind of quarterback that could possibly carry the Wolverines to a win over Ohio State.

You know the Buckeyes are always going to have an elite quarterback and Michigan needs to start catching up in the arms race. Landing McCarthy was a huge step forward for the Wolverines. People thought it was when Shea Patterson, another former five-star came aboard, yet we all know that didn’t work quite as well as planned.

Unfortunately for Shea, he only got one season in the new offense being run by Josh Gattis. If he had another, I do believe he would improve. He’s still not elite though.

It remains to be seen if Dylan McCaffrey, Joe Milton or Cade McNamara can play at an elite level, however, even if they do, it’s key to have others in the pipeline and that’s why the offer extended by Michigan ($) to four-star quarterback MJ Morris of the 2022 class is notable.

Morris is ranked fourth among dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2022 class and he is exactly the kind of quarterback the Wolverines need. He’s the No. 4 dual-threat QB and while that may be lower than McCarthy, the ability to run is something UM desperately needs.

Justin Fields dominated Michigan with pinpoint throws, however, his ability to run makes him even harder to stop. Patterson was supposed to be that running threat. It just never materialized.

Getting a quarterback like Morris could help it and either way, Michigan needs a slew of high-end passers, at least if it wants to hang with Ohio State.
