The Michigan football team knew it landed a really solid recruit in Andre Seldon and now the four-star corner is flying up the final 247 rankings for 2020.

As far as Michigan football and its 2020 recruiting class is concerned, there are a lot of reasons to be excited. One of the biggest reasons to be excited though has to do with one of the smallest players, at least in terms of stature.

Cornerback Andre Seldon has never been big. But as far as playing defensive back, his size wouldn’t even be considered average. He’s listed at 5-foot-8 and just more than 154 pounds. Whether those numbers are accurate or not is hard to know, but either way, it still doesn’t matter because Seldon is a man among boys.

And his performance earlier this month against Julian Fleming, a top wideout in 2020, at the Under Armour All-American game, certainly opened some eyes, especially among the talent evaluators at 247 sports who took notice as they put together their final rankings.

And when those rankings were released Tuesday, not only did Seldon improve, he jumped into the top 200. He’s now ranked No. 159 according to the 247 composite rankings and more impressively, Seldon is now listed as the 10th-best corner.

Michigan football has been in desperate need of a shutdown corner and Seldon could be the best hope on the roster. He’s already enrolled and will take part in spring football with the Wolverines, which could give him a chance to see the field right away next season.

As his ranking went up, here was the analysis from 247 sports as to why:

“[He] was the smallest corner in the game but no one competed harder,” 247 Sports analyst Greg Biggins said. “He played with a chip on his shoulder every day in practice and no one made more plays throughout the week.”

Seldon also drew praise from Pacman Jones, another corner that made a name for himself, despite being a smaller guy.

The move up isn’t a shock and actually seems overdue. It was easy to look at Seldon and realize he was one of the top cover guys in 2020 and next season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him in the secondary, maybe even as a nickel back, for Michigan football right away.
