A slew of Michigan football players took part in the Senior Bowl this week, but one that stood out was Josh Uche. Also, how did Shea Patterson hold up?

The Michigan football program was well represented Saturday when some of college football’s top players took part in the Senior Bowl.

Of course, people are always attracted to the quarterback and Michigan football fans certainly have an attachment to how Shea Patterson does and while he wasn’t perfect, Patterson did throw a touchdown pass in the game.

The touchdown was more about good play design and the defense losing track out a running back out of the backfield, but still, Patterson hit him in stride on the play that went for six. Unfortunately, as he did at times with Michigan football, Patterson followed up a great play with a mistake, throwing an interception.

When it was over, Patterson completed 6-of-10 passes for 131 yards and a score, as well as the INT. It was the typical Patterson performance, he teased some ability, made some nice throws but also showed his penchant for mistakes.

At one time, I thought Patterson was going to be a second or third-round pick, but not anymore. He does have a solid arm, but he’s inaccurate and inconsistent. He can make some plays with his feet and some solid throws. As a backup, he could hang around and who knows, maybe if he had a few years to develop, he could be better than expected.

But it’s hard to see him ever being a full-time starter and I also can’t see him going much sooner than the sixth round if he’s drafted at all. I don’t think it’s a guarantee.

Yet, another Michigan football player that participated Saturday that will get drafted is Josh Uche. The edge rusher impressed scouts all week with his ability to rush the passer and he did well in one-on-one’s because he is an explosive guy.

Uche who lead the Wolverines in sacks this past season could have returned as a fifth-year senior. Instead, he could become the first Michigan football to get drafted in the 2020 NFL draft.

Quality pass rushers are hard to find and Uche is one, with a lot of untapped potential still to be unleashed at the next level.
