Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from Jim Harbaugh’s new hires
Harbaugh adds more quality assistants
Last offseason, Harbaugh was able to land Josh Gattis as his offensive coordinator and even though there were some growing pains early, it turned about to be a brilliant move that should help the offense reach new heights.
But like with most offseasons, Michigan football had two coaching jobs to fill and in relatively quick order, Harbaugh was able to find two very good replacements.
Just about every Wolverines fan was clamoring for Harbaugh to replace Brown. Some even wanted Partridge or Campanile promoted into a role as co-DC. That didn’t happen, however, Harbaugh hired two guys with tons of experience as coordinators.
Each guy was a coordinator last season, with Shoop in the SEC and Jean-Mary at South Florida. Along with Browns, that gives Michigan three guys who have recently been in that role, which could lead to some new ways of doing things.
Harbaugh’s hires over the past two years in Gattis and Ed Warriner appear to be part of fixing the offense long term and maybe adding these assistants will help fix some of the repetitive issues on defense.
