Offensive line

Starters: Ryan Hayes, Chuck Filiaga, Zach Carpenter, Andrew Stueber, Jalen Mayfield

The offensive line was one of the strongest parts of Michigan’s offense, especially after Jon Runyan Jr. returned to form after the Wisconsin game.

But he’s gone along with Ben Bredeson, Cesar Ruiz and Michael Onwenu, leaving the Wolverines to replace four starters. Zach Carpenter is one name to watch at center, while a pair of veterans should take over at guard, with young guys nipping at their heels.

It’s always possible that Michigan explores a transfer but with the depth and talent of the past two offensive line classes, it shouldn’t be needed.

Backups: Trente Jones, Nolan Rumler, Andrew Vastardis, Karsen Barnhart, Trevor Keegan

Outside of Vastardis, the other four guys were all freshmen this past season and each has a chance to be really good players. Jones was my favorite prospect at tackle last season and he just looks like the part of playing on the left side. Keegan could too but he is also a fit on the right.

Rumler and Barnhart are two guys that you can easily picture starting for the Wolverines before too long and for multiple seasons. We will see if they get their chance next season, but expect to hear good things about all of them come spring football.
