Michigan football had a good news day Tuesday and here is a breakdown of the return of two players and assistant coach Anthony Campanile.

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has done a great job of building a very talented coaching staff, yet for a time this offseason, it looked like more than one member may leave for other opportunities elsewhere.

Chris Partridge, the special teams coach and safeties coach already departed for Ole Miss and form a few days, it looked as though linebackers coach, Anthony Campanile, who was hired last offseason to replace Al Washington, may leave too.

Both Boston College, where Michigan football hired Campanile away from, and Rutgers, expressed interest in him as defensive coordinator. Rutgers offered him the DC job and a pay raise and with all his connections to New Jersey, including family on the Scarlet Knight staff, it felt like he might leave.

However, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported Tuesday that Rutgers had made another hire, meaning Campanile will return to the Wolverines, which is huge, not just for the defense, but for recruiting.

Campanile can help Michigan football maintain its recruiting presence in New Jersey and that’s been a major source of talent in recent years, including Jordan Morant in 2020, a recruit Michigan may have not have landed without Campanile’s influence.

It also leaves just one position for Harbaugh to fill with Partridge out. That’s a lot to do right there and not having to replace Campanile, who could be a DC candidate at U-M at some point, has to be a huge relief.

Yet, it wasn’t the only good news for the Wolverines Tuesday and here’s a look at the next piece of information having to do with Carlo Kemp.
