It’s hard to know which players Michigan football could be interested in when it comes to the transfer portal but one possibility has to be Otis Reese.

It’s always interesting to try and make connections between Michigan football and players going into the transfer portal. But with one linebacker/safety that just placed his name in not long ago, the connection to the Wolverines isn’t hard to make.

The player who I am referring to is Otis Reese, a former Michigan football commit that wound up going to Georgia. He was recruited by the Wolverines as a linebacker and could have been a perfect fit as a viper.

With the Bulldogs, he has played safety the past two seasons and after limited playing time, Reese entered his name in the transfer portal according to 247 sports.

The news could come at a good time for the Wolverines, who are looking at add some extra depth at linebacker this offseason. At least, that could be one takeaway from the possible addition of Ed Warriner’s son, a linebacker at Michigan State that is set to transfer.

He already has two crystal balls projecting him to wind up with the Wolverines and with Jordan Glasgow and Khaleke Hudson on the way out, more depth and a player like Reese certainly couldn’t hurt.

Reese was the No. 87 player in the 2018 class and he was committed to Michigan football until signing day when he flipped and announced he would go to Georgia. That was a tough blow for U-M but not it seems possible that it could be a fit.

The issue is that it’s hard to know if Reese would be able to play next season. The answer is likely no, although Justin Fields probably shouldn’t have gotten eligible and he did, so you never know.

With Cameron McGrone and Josh Ross, there is some experience back at linebacker, but others like Anthony Solomon and Michael Barrett have little actual playing time.

Another part of the process would be figuring out if Reese was a linebacker or safety. As I said, he could be an ideal viper, which makes his possible addition more intriguing, but at this point, we’ll have to wait and see if the Wolverines have an interest.
