Michigan football picked up a big commitment Saturday as four-star cornerback Darion Green-Warren announced he signed with the Wolverines.

In this pass-happy world of college football, you can never have enough good cover guys and Saturday at the All-American Bowl, Michigan football added another in four-star cornerback Darion Green-Warren.

Warren, who is ranked as the 14th-best corner in the 2020 class, as well as the 184th player overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings, was playing in the game when he announced his decision. It was then reported by Wolverines Wire that he signed during the early signing period and then made his announcement Saturday.

Green-Warren was also reportedly a silent commit to USC until he visited Michigan football. Rumors of a changing change with the Trojans, which didn’t ultimately happen, seemed to open the door for the Wolverines.

It was widely expected that Green-Warren was going to commit to Michigan football, but it was still great to see it happen, especially since he can form an elite tandem with fellow four-star Andre Seldon.

Seldon is a 5-foot-8 corner that stood out at the Under Armour All-Star game earlier this week. He’s ranked just outside the top 200 and is a guy that could compete for snaps right away in the nickel with his speed, instincts and playmaking ability. Seldon is the No. 16 corner in 2020.

The addition of Green-Warren puts Michigan football at No. 11 in terms of class rankings in 2020 and second in the Big Ten. Green-Warren is also the sixth highest-ranked prospect of the entire 2020 class for the Wolverines, showing what a big deal it is to sign him.

The 6-foot corner is known for his ability to play well in man coverage and he has an interest in playing in the NFL, which made Michigan a great fit since it has sent a number of corners to the NFL in recent years under the tutelage of Mike Zordich.

The cornerback depth chart will look different based on what Ambry Thomas decides to do, yet if he returns, he will likely start alongside Vincent Gray, who played well as the No. 3 corner last season.

That will leave the nickel job open for guys on the roster like DJ Turner, Jalen Perry, Gemon Green and possibly Seldon or maybe even Green-Warren. But even if Seldon and Green-Warren don’t see the field next season, landing both is impressive and it could pay major dividends down the road.
