Michigan Football: Devin Bush Sr. is ideal replacement for Chris Partridge
Michigan football needs a new safeties coach to replace Chris Partridge and Devin Bush Sr. could be the perfect fit.
It’s been a big week for Michigan football and its fans, especially after another disappointing bowl loss for the Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl.
But the Citrus Bowl result may not have been the biggest news item this week for Michigan football. Instead, that might have come when defensive assistant and safety coach Chris Partridge accepted a job at Ole Miss.
Partridge, who spent the last five years on the staff of head coach Jim Harbaugh, was also the special teams coordinator and a guy that has risen through the ranks quickly. Just five years ago, he was a high school head coach in New Jersey.
Now, he is going to be helped to run defense in the SEC, the most elite conference in all of college football.
So where does that leave Michigan?

For starters, it leaves the Wolverines without an up-and-coming defensive assistant, who also happened to be quite possibly the best recruiter on the staff as he helped bring aboard guys like Rashan Gary and Daxton Hill, among others.
While Michigan could certainly use more ideas on the defensive side of the ball, Partridge’s best attribute was his ability to get talent to Ann Arbor and that, more than anything, is what needs to be replaced.
And that’s why, in my eyes, defensive analyst, Devin Bush Sr. makes perfect sense.
Not only was Bush Sr. an NFL player, but his son, Devin Bush Jr., has been arguably the best Michigan football player during the Harbaugh era and is also an NFL star.
That isn’t going to hurt when it comes to recruiting talented defenders. The fact that Bush Sr. also has deep connections to the state of Florida, adds to the thought that he would do well on the recruiting trail.
There will be plenty of options, even some we don’t think of right now. Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider ($), threw out Bush Sr. and also Cato June, the former U-M linebacker as possible additions but no one knows.
Shaun Nua wasn’t expected and neither was Josh Gattis. However, both ended up being great hires along with Anthony Campanile. So Harbaugh has earned some trust in this arena. But if I had my call, Bush Sr. would be the first choice. It just makes too much sense.
