Michigan football is losing some key starters on the offensive line and one option for replacing them could be a graduate transfer.

The season is never really over for Michigan football and the rest of college football. There is an offseason sure, but it’s a highly competitive time as the fight to recruits and talent never stops.

After boasting one of the most experienced and talented offensive lines in the Big Ten conference during the 2019 season, Michigan football will be without three starters heading into next season and it could be four is Cesar Ruiz decides to declare for the NFL draft.

At offensive tackle, Jon Runyan Jr. won’t return and will graduate, while Michael Onwenu and Ben Bredeson are also graduating and moving on to other things.

On one hand, Michigan football has a number of talented prospects coming up, including Ryan Hayes, who could be the replacement for Runyan next season. Jalen Mayfield seems entrenched as the starter at right tackle, leaving Hayes, Andrew Steuber and a bunch of 2019 recruits to compete for playing time next season.

However, it’s starting to look like Michigan might be looking to add some veteran experience along the offensive line, via the transfer portal.

Earlier this month, I took a look at three players that could help the Wolverines right away and one them was Stanford offensive lineman Devery Hamilton.

Following a disappointing season, Hamilton entered the transfer portal and he would be eligible to play immediately as a graduate transfer. The 6-foot-6 offensive lineman was a Michigan pledge at one point, before going to Stanford so a move back to U-M makes sense.

And in a development that shows that Michigan has a real interest, some key coaches have started following Henderson on Twitter.

If you scroll through Henderson’s followers, you can see that offensive coordinator Josh Gattis is now following Hamilton, along with tight ends coach Sherrone Moore,  who is an essential part of the Wolverines recruiting efforts.

Obviously, that doesn’t necessarily mean Henderson is going to end up at Michigan football but it’s a strong indication that the Wolverines are going to make a push for his services.

Henderson’s versatility is what makes the most sense about his possible addition. He has started at both guard and tackle and if the youngsters are ready to fill those spots, he could be a swing tackle or a depth option. Either way, he would add competition and there is no replacement for experience, especially on the offensive line.
