Michigan Football: 3 final takeaways from another Buckeye beatdown
By Nick Popio
Like a broken record Michigan football got humiliated again by their most important opponent on the calendar.
Things started out like it was going to be a special day in Ann Arbor. Michigan football went up 6-0 on the Giles Jackson sweep and the hope began to rise. Then the Buckeyes responded to take a 14-6 lead, but the maize and blue answered with a long drive of their own. That would be the closest the Wolverines would get though. More of the same mistakes that befuddled this team early in the season resurfaced to put the Buckeyes up for good.
The two turning points of the encounter were when Patterson fumbled in the red zone and Haskins got stopped short on fourth and one. The Wolverines were on the move down eight when Patterson coughed it up. It could have changed the complexion of the entire outcome. Then later, only down two scores, Michigan failed on fourth and that was a wrap. Michigan had its chances and ultimately collapsed under the pressure.
Now the maize and blue can relive this loss for another year as the Buckeyes look to become national champions. That is a continuing reminder of how far off the Wolverines are from their counterparts. If Michigan football seriously wants to compete with the Buckeyes than changes will need to be made. The upcoming offseason will undoubtedly be one of the most critical times in recent memory.
Here are three final takeaways from The Game.
