The defense

Let’s forget about the first quarter, shall we?

Defensive line

Grade: B

Indiana’s Stevie Scott averaged over four yards-per-carry on the backs of his O-line, who weren’t afraid of the Michigan men lining up opposite them. Still, It was a good day for this squad, but not great.

Although, Aidan Hutchinson was the team’s second-leading tackler and he is quickly becoming the Dikembe Mutombo of pass deflections.

Linebackers

Grade: B

Cam McGrone and Jordan Glasgow did what they needed to to get off the field but not much else. The position-less Josh Uche would raise the grade for either group if I could identify which one he truly belonged to. Uche’s strip-sack followed by the fumble recovery – coupled with his two QB hurries – proves he’s UM’s best pass rusher.

Cornerbacks/safeties

Grade: A

If I were to grade based solely on the first quarter, this group would receive a C, but, fortunately, the entire defense got their act together to shut down the Hoosier offense. Peyton Ramsey finished 17/29 for 217 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.

True freshman Daxton Hill started the game for the injured Brad Hawkins and might have usurped the junior with his interception and team-leading eight tackle outing.

Hill also highlighted his closing speed, shaving off potential yards for whichever Indiana ball carrier was brave enough to breach the Wolverine line.
