Michigan Football: 3 Postseason bowl scenarios for Wolverines
A loss to Ohio State or Indiana
At 9-3, the prospect of a significant bowl game draws a little dimmer. Surprisingly, however, it doesn’t matter which game they lose because both Indiana and Ohio State have really good teams. Indiana, at 7-3, has one bad loss to Michigan State and are currently sitting one spot below the Wolverines in the conference.
The Buckeyes are undefeated, and, as the butt hurt Michigan State so ineloquently pointed out, they hold a seven-game win streak over Michigan. This weekend the Buckeyes will fight for the top of the Big Ten against a one-loss Penn State.
Regardless of the outcome of that game, a three-loss Wolverine squad isn’t going to look great when the bowls are being picked and will likely slide in the rankings somewhere outside of the top 20. There, the Wolverines will be pitted against a higher-ranked team (15-20) in a bowl game scheduled somewhere between December 28th and the 31st.
Those bowl games include the Gator Bowl, Holiday Bowl, and the Liberty Bowl, among others. This is not the desired outcome, but at least they avoid the Gasparilla Bowl and Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Best case scenario, a third loss catapults them out of a New Year Six bowl game and into the Alamo Bowl. Worst case, either loss knocks them out of the rankings entirely, and the team stays home for the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field.
