It was a big weekend for Michigan football on the field, but the Wolverines blowout win also appeared to help with four-star tight end Theo Johnson.

With some recruiting battles, you never seem to really know anything until it’s over and that might be the case with prominent Michigan football target Theo Johnson.

Johnson, who is the No. 3 tight end in the 2020 class according to the 247 composite rankings, is also a top-100 prospect. He visited Michigan football during the Michigan State in what was his second visit of the season.

Obviously, it went pretty well. The offense exploded for 44 points and nearly 500 total yards, as well as close to 400 through the air. The last time Johnson visited was against Middle Tennessee State, so the offense has come a long way and is finally resembling what we all expected.

More than that, the visit seems to have gone very well according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($), who had this to say:

"“Still no firm date for a decision, but he did mention earlier in the fall the possibility of making it back to Ann Arbor for the match up with OSU. That would obviously be another positive sign Michigan. Even without that my gut tells me folks in Maize & Blue circles feel like Michigan is back in the driver’s seat.”"

Webb offers some interesting info on Johnson, who is probably the top target left for the Wolverines in the 2020 class. The four-star tight end was supposed to make his decision Monday (today) but he has delayed it.

In his post, Webb interprets that as a good thing for Michigan football. Penn State is viewed as the favorite and the fact that the decision was delayed could mean a good thing for the Wolverines, especially if Johnson visits for Ohio State in two weeks.

Yet, with Johnson, it’s hard to get a grip on the race for his commitment. At times, it has felt like Michigan was the favorite, while at other times it has felt like Penn State, Iowa and even Georgia.

Now, it appears it’s Michigan and Penn State and it will be interesting to see how it plays out, but it seems like the Wolverines are making up ground.

In other news, Michigan still has a spot to fill at quarterback in 2020 and while CJ Stroud is one name to watch, another, according to Webb is Carl Richardson.

Richardson isn’t ranked according to 247 sports and is listed as the 33rd best pro-style quarterback, but the 6-foot-4 signal-caller is gaining momentum.

He has offers from Washington State, Boise State as well as offers from other Mountain West schools. Michigan football hasn’t offered him yet, but according to Webb ($), there is some interest and if Jim Harbaugh and company did offer, it would likely move the meter.

Michigan might have a shot to land Richardson but it’s getting late in the game. But, if there is a miss on Stroud, there won’t be much choice and not taking a quarterback in 2020 is less than ideal.
