Michigan football didn’t just beat Michigan State, the Wolverines embarrassed the Spartans and here are five things we learned.

A lot of Michigan football fans are focused on beating Ohio State at the end of the season, as they should be. But there was a time when Jim Harbaugh was criticized for not being able to beat Michigan State or win rivalry games.

Well, after drubbing a top-10 Notre Dame by 31 points and then knocking off the Spartans by 34 points, I’d say that’s no longer an issue. Jim Harbaugh owns Mark Dantonio and the Wolverines once again own the state of Michigan.

It took a few years and maybe longer than some expected, but the Spartans are the “little brother” again and Saturday at the Big House, Michigan football established its dominance with what can only be described as a beat down.

The start was a little sluggish again and possibly that was because of the two-week layoff, but once Shea Patterson and the offense got rolling, there was no stopping it and making matters worse for the Spartans, was a defense that was not only dominant but opportunistic.

And don’t forget about special teams and the blocked punt by Khaleke Hudson as well the three field goals made by Quinn Nordin. The offense turned it over once, while the defense forced two turnovers, not counting the punt block.

It was an impressive showing and with two weeks left in the season, Michigan football is firing on all cylinders. But let’s take one last look at what we learned before looking ahead to Indiana and then, of course, Ohio State.
