Michigan will start fast

This will be the fourth road game of the season for Michigan football and so far the Wolverines are 1-2. However, it’s not a coincidence that Michigan fell behind 21-0 in each of those losses.

Starting fast is essential and it’s even more important on the road, especially against an underdog like Maryland. The Wolverines were able to set the tone early against Illinois and then weathered the storm as the Fighting Illini nearly pulled off the upset.

I’d expect the same thing on Saturday. Michigan will come out and pound the rock, establishing its physicality early on both sides of the ball. Maryland has to be lacking confidence, while Michigan has as much as it has had all season.

That will work in the Wolverines favor early. The offense will get some explosive plays and a strong start defensively will allow them to take control of the game. Maryland is good enough to make some exciting things happen and it will, but thanks to a quick start, it won’t impact the outcome of the game.
