Michigan Football: Could Tarik Black be headed for transfer portal?
It’s been strange to see Tarik Black get so little playing time for Michigan football and it makes you wonder if he will leave, one way or another.
There is a very good chance that Michigan football will have some new faces at wide receiver in 2019, especially with the prospect of some talented wideouts leaving after this season.
It’s hard to predict what will happen, but there is certainly a chance that guys like Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones could leave for the NFL draft after this season and they may not be alone.
Another player that is generally regarded as having NFL talent is wide receiver Tarik Black who has been nagged by injuries. Yet, this season, Black has had some good moments and 18 receptions for 241 yards and a touchdown.
That score game against Middle Tennessee State, a game in which he had 80 yards receiving. Since then, Black has only been over 50 once, against Wisconsin and it seems his role in the offense continues to decrease.
At 6-foot-3, Black is best suited to playing on the outside, which is sometimes hard to do with Collins and Peoples-Jones ahead of him. Then there is Ronnie Bell and also Mike Sainristil, who emerged last Saturday once Bell went down with an injury.
Black wasn’t anywhere to be seen and he went without a catch after having just nine receiving yards against Penn State the week before.
There have been whispers of Black wanting to transfer before. Who knows if there was any truth to them, however, Black has been re-tweeting things from other guys who have recently left the program, which makes you wonder.
It’s hard to know exactly what the tweet by Benjamin St. Juste means but it seems there is some dissatisfaction with him and J’Marick Woods, who also announced he was leaving recently and the fact that Black is re-tweeting that is curious.
It could be nothing. It could also be a reflection of how he feels right now. Regardless, he can’t be happy with his role in the offense right now and while Black would be eligible to enter the NFL draft, it’s hard to imagine his stock is very high.
He may get selected on talent alone late or maybe he could sign as a rookie free agent. He would get a shot certainly but the transfer portal could be another option, although he would certainly need a waiver to make it worthwhile, otherwise, he would be delaying his career by a season and I doubt he wants that either.
So a return to Michigan football is certainly possible too but it will likely depend on a number of factors. It’s just something to watch from now till the end of the season.
