Defense still allowing too many big plays

If you just looked at the final stats, without looking at the score, then you might that Michigan football did a solid job defensively against Penn State.

At times, you would be right. There were some bright spots for Michigan football, however, the defense again showed against good teams, it simply cannot limit big plays.

All four of Penn State’s touchdown drives were six plays of less and the 50-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was a backbreaker. The turnover by the offense didn’t help, but still, against teams with speed and good quarterbacks, the Wolverines routinely get beat deep.

And why Josh Metellus is trying to cover KJ Hamler is beyond me. That’s an obvious mismatch, yet Don Brown did it time and time again. His blitz schemes are great and Brown does a lot of good things. But he is in over his head and has been from day one.

He can’t change, he can’t adjust, he is who he is and that’s someone that is simply unable to stop elite, spread offenses. The proof is in the pudding and another 28-point effort helps reinforce it even more.
