Michigan Football: 3 keys to Wolverines beating Penn State
Win red-zone battle
Another huge issue for this Michigan football team has been the red zone, especially on offense. While Penn State has scored on 96 of its red-zone possessions, which is second in the Big Ten, Michigan is at 72 percent.
The Wolverines do have 17 touchdowns in 29 attempts but the Nittany Lions have scored 19 in 25. If that trend continues on Saturday, it’s will spell trouble.
Penn State is going to be able to score some points with Sean Clifford and crew or at least get into the red zone. The key is holding them to field goals a time or two.
Michigan has allowed 10 touchdowns in 14 opportunities, which also isn’t very good compared to Penn State. The Nittany Lions have allowed four touchdowns in 11 opponent trips, but the best offense they have faced is Iowa and we know how the Hawkeyes fared against UM.
Even against Wisconsin, Michigan moved the ball and imagine if Ben Mason hadn’t fumbled on that first red-zone trip. It could have been a different game.
Both teams are going to get some chances down there and the one that executes better inside the 20 could very well win the game.
