After trouncing Rutgers last week, Michigan football can start to turn its season around with a win over Iowa Saturday. Here are five predictions.

No matter how you slice it, beating Iowa Saturday is essential for Michigan football. A win keeps the Wolverines in the Big Ten title hunt and relieves the pressure on head coach Jim Harbaugh. At least for a little while.

But more importantly, a win over Iowa would help Michigan football steady the ship. This team has all the talent in the world, outside of Ohio State, no team in the Big Ten has more.

However, the Wolverines lack confidence. You could see that against Wisconsin and it feels like all the talk about losing big games has gotten in their heads. That’s what makes this game important.

Earlier this week, I said this was a must-win game and I believe that. This isn’t the game that will ultimately decide the fate of Harbaugh, yet if Michigan fails to win, it would need a ton of help just have to a chance to win the Big Ten East.

A loss means Michigan will essentially need to win out to have a shot in the Big Ten or playing in a major bowl and with a schedule that features Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State, all I can say is good luck.

The Wolverines are capable of winning all those games, but they could lose them all too. That goes back to confidence and that’s what a win over Iowa can provide.

Getting that victory is another story and here’s a look at five bold predictions for Saturday.
