Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard met with the Big Ten Media Wednesday in Chicago and here are five key takeaways.

With college football season in full swing, it’s easy to forget about college hoops. But as Michigan basketball head coach Juwan Howard met with the Big Ten Media Wednesday, it was a great reminder that basketball season is right around the corner.

For Howard, it was another first. It was the first time he represented the Wolverines in front of the Big Ten Media and by all accounts, Howard represented himself well.

He also offered up some key info about this Michigan basketball team as the 2019-20 season is now set to begin in under a month with the first game set for November 1.

Right now, the Wolverines are definitely an unknown in the Big Ten. The media poll picked them fifth and most expect Michigan basketball to make the NCAA tournament, but just how good with the Wolverines be this season?

How much will they miss John Beilein?

As Howard said Wednesday, he’s not Beilein and he’s not going to try to be either.

The best way to mirror Beilein is to keep the Wolverines among the Big Ten’s elite, a place they have been for most of the past seven years.

There is no doubt this program has reached an elite level and it’s up to Howard to keep it there. As far as this season is concerned, here are five things we learned Wednesday that could shed light on how that might happen.
