Michigan Football: 3 Wolverines that need to see their roles increased
Daxton Hill
Before last Saturday, the biggest play that Daxton Hill had made for the Michigan football team was catching a pass for a first down on a fake punt against Army.
Hill showed off his burst a little on that play, but his skill set wasn’t utilized much on defense until Rutgers came calling and that was mostly due to the injury to J’Marick Woods.
Woods is a decent player, but he doesn’t have the raw ability that Hill does. In fact, no one at the safety position does and that’s why it curious that Hill hasn’t played more. Coaches sing his praises every chance they get, so let’s see what he can do.
Against Rutgers, he started to stand out. He made a spectacular tackle on special teams on the punt coverage team. However, he also knifed in the backfield and recorded a tackle for loss, as well as making a few other stops.
Speed is what this defense has been lacking, especially at the safety position, so the lack of playing time for Hill has been confusing, to say the least. Hopefully, his performance opened some eyes because there is no doubt he needs more playing time.
