Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from win over Rutgers
Defense found its attitude
Over the years we have become accustomed to seeing Don Brown’s defense dominate poor competition, so it wasn’t a shock to see Michigan football dominate Rutgers.
But again, it was the way the Wolverines did it that caught my eye. Honestly, I figured Rutgers would get some points on the board, even before the half was over, but this team was determined to get the shutout and that was nice to see.
The effort up front was spectacular. Paye was a beast and finished with 1.5 sacks and three tackles for loss. Daxton Hill also made his presence felt on defense and special teams. Josh Uche also notched a half-sack, as well as two quarterback hurries.
The addition of Cam McGrone to the lineup seemed to make a big difference and made you ask the question, why hasn’t he been out there? I’m still wondering why Daxton Hill isn’t playing more too.
The pass rush is still an issue after getting just seven sacks in four games. It will need to be better next week but the juice was back against Rutgers and that was a very good sign.
